My Computer Can Read

Now I am really convinced my computer CAN read...and does have a brain somewhere in them thar innards.
In the previous post you will read of the problems I have had since I came home from the markets and tried to put up new photos....GGGrrrr!!!! Then I thought maybe some of the members of the digital group on SF may have been having/or had the same problem so I posted an appeal for help onto the Forum.

Sharon B very kindly replied very quickly of having similar problems...etc.

I replied to her post and used the words "throw the computer out of the window" or words to that effect.

AND....what do you know....now everything works again!!! So this gremlin in my computer must be easily intimidated ....thank goodness...

SO! I will say no more and just post the photos of the markets...I did write about them in my previous post as well. I did like the Mushroom shaped garden ornaments and I could not resist a visit to my lady with the natural handmade soaps or buying another gardenia scented one.

Learning Gimp

Thanks to Faith from the Digital Group on Stitching Fingers, I have had a go at making a couple of photo montages.  This one of of the wedding I went to....still have a lot to learn.

When I finished adding all the photos the image was something like 35Mb  and would have used up so much and taken so long to post, so what I did was re do it in my scribus programme, thinking I would be able to save it as a graphic but no could do it would only save as a document.

What did I do? I printed out the first one, and then photographed it and this is what I have posted.  Lots to learn!   That is when I went cooking!

Trying out new Editor

I was hunting round my settings and decided to try out the new editor.  I think it is better and allows one to do much more than before.   The thing I did find at first was i did not seem able to get away from the end of the caption but when I hit the "Enter" key it allowed me to start the new paragraph.  I did have this trouble when I was putting the photos from my grandson's wedding onto one of "My Pages".

So now with these flowers blooming...is spring really almost here.. and .if so when are the cold westerly winds going to go away.

Problems with Blog? Grrr!

One of my follows has told me they could not get into my blog to comment. Can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem. I got onto blogger and they told me I have ...."comment capcha on" whatever that means. But they said it could be confusing to visitors who want to comment.

Playing with photos

I have a photo programme called Gimp where I can manipulate, photos. It is an excellent programme, but up to now I have only cropped, condensed and saved. then I saw some wonderful photos from the Geelong Visual Diary Blog. That inspired me to be brave and investigate what else I could do with this programme and here are my results.

I used the photos of the spring Blossoms in a previous blog, plus the photo of the yellow orchid for the swirl. Will post the other original photos when I find them again.

Playing with Blog

I have been playing with my blog, and had a look at the new design feature and discovered there are a lot of nice designs there so I hope my new look with this new feature works without any glitzes.

I was a bit bored with the old layout and colour scheme and think this one is a lot softer. i like daisies and like painting them so here is a photo of one of my daisy paintings.

I have also added a "Search" gadget so it will be easier to find posts and pics on different topics.

Busy Day

I woke early and on impulse decided to do the upgrade on the old computer, but could not understand what the stuff on the disc I had been given was so abandoned that and thought I would just do an upgrade which I had a disk for in my new big book about linux. However after 3 hours and getting halfway through the upgrade ( and dowloading over 800 Mb of data) it just said it could not continue and was going to abort the process.....grrrr. I have a vague recollection it may be because I did not "trash" what was there before commencing.

So now I will just take the disk and box to the next computer group meeting ...to the very clever J to advise me what to do next.

This is a photo of the Book on Linux Ubuntu that my son bought me..it came with a disk in the back. I think I will need to find out how to clear out the memory before it will load properly.
The book has 826 pages so that is a lot of reading!!!

Reading what I have of it must have had some effect, because I just though hmmm well that sorts that out doesn't it....I did not even get stressed. Although I think belonging to the computer group has given me a lot more courage and removed the panic I used to feel every time I used the computer...but...that was in the days when I had MS.

Fairies in my garden

Well! I dont know how this technology works...I am sure..

Finally plucked up the courage to phone the fuji people, all at the ready for a mammoth task, and it was decided that I should download new drivers onto hubbies laptop (MS) so I could download the photos there, because they did not support Linux, even though I have been using the camera with Linux from day 1.
The girl sent me the drivers via email, which I had to forward through to DH laptop. I might add here that I have never installed "driver" in my life they are the area of clever sons. The only "drivers" I know are those people who sit behind a wheel.

Then I had to save the attachment of the "driver" to a folder...dah de dah de dah...etc... when that was done, was then told to unzip the attachment......unzip...we are not sewing we are on the computers...have never understood the unzip...

Anyway, clicked on something and there was this "stuff" in the folder.

Did not know what to do next with it, so just plugged in the camera and WALLAH! there were the photos.
My dear old brain then thought...why don't I try the camera on my computer again...and...
wait for it..... drum roll...

there were the photos...will never know how the drivers came through the network to my computer.
However, now i do know for sure that there ARE fairies at the bottom of my garden and they got in the window while i was out shopping (when I tried unsuccessfully to buy new card and reader etc) and fixed everything for me.

Aren't they little darlings...they must know I love fairies, and now I know they love me back.



So that is how my photos of my latest Tast stitches have appeared on SF and here on my blog.

Visitors

Have just had a lovely weekend with our visitors eldest son and his wife and their "family" arrived on Saturday afternoon (late because of a bad storm with heavy rain which slowed their progress). They came bearing gifts...for DH seafood of oysters, prawns and mussels all of which he loves.
For me, a new router , and for both of us a new set top box for the TV. This is my new router.

Was having problems with the old one I had, so am looking forward to the network being much more stable. Although there was no time for lessons but if I can refrain from "fiddling" with it all should be well.

Already had a roast in the oven when they arrived, so apart from the oysters for an appetiser, saved the prawns and mussels for Sunday.
There was so much activity I completely forgot to take photos....made up for it on Sunday though, with photos of the dogs.

No sewing day

Didn't get to do any embroidery yesterday. Firstly I had got my computer back, but turned it on and it did the same thing as before it went away. Tried changing the screens from the two computers, because my friend said it was a mystery to him and that might help. BUT! the connection plugs were different weren't they. So back to square one and shifting things round again.
Then when I went to put the blue screwy plug thing into the back of the computer...it was pretty stiff and hard to get in...decided to give it an extra shove, and it went in a bit further.
So maaaaybeee I hadn't plugged it hadn't been plugged in properly the last time it was connected up....oops. So! so far so good and no tearing of the picture on the screen. Fingers crossed.
It did come back working faster so will have to ask what was done.
Then had to catch up and download photos from the camera that had been waiting for it etc etc.

By then it was lunchtime...I had made the bed, and done some important stuff ,but fortunately had made some sweet potato and coriander soup to add to my winter store of soups, which was handy to have for an easy lunch.
