Butterfly progresses

Decisions, decisions, what's next.

These are the colours i am going with at the moment.

Have started the other part of the embroidery. Decided to use Perle No. 8 since this is going to be a cushion. Not happy with the long and short stitch so please people, dont look too close, and dont judge too harshly.

This stitch, together with satin stitch , has always stumped me, so I am a true beginner with it. I am hoping that when it is washed and pressed at the end it will be passable.

Dont like the leaves on the bottom left know now should not have done them in a variegated thread and also need to fix one of the leaves. Will put that in the too hard basket until I work out what to do with the rest of the leaves.

The cushion can go into the history category of "Nan did that when she was really really old!".

Hate having to make decisions about colours...particularly when doing something to suit anothers taste. At least it will be colourful.

Found the designs for the flowers in a book called Free Embroidery on Canvas, written by Anna Pearson.

butterfly takes a new tack

Well the butterfly has taken a totally new tack. Have almost finished the wings, and am a bit disappointed in my execution of the ideas of colour. Cant seem to get the trail right so have decided to take a total new tack. Do away with the trail and stitch other butterflies and flowers at random....using different techniques for each butterfly....this project could end up back on the shelf! Can see this is going to be one of those "long term projects".

Butterfly

A few weeks ago, came across a piece of Dublin linen in the cupboard just the right size for a cushion and decided to do a Blackwork butterfly design on it for my daughter in law since she likes butterflies. However, she wants it to be in colour instead of black.

The design is one from Inspirations magazine that I have had sitting on a corner of the shelf in my sewing/computer room open at the page for soooo long.
