Le Bag is finished

Well after languishing in the cupboard for a couple of years my crazy patch bag is made up and ready for use.I was not going to worry about embroidering the seams on the back, because I was quite "over" this, but Dianne took the back piece home with her and embroidered the seams on the back with the fancy stitches on her machine so it now looks "finished",.

Having Dianne do that really pushed me to finish it plus I wanted to use it when we go to the Textile Fair next weekend so I dont have to take a handbag....just the one bag which will hold "everything" including any acquisitions.

I am afraid these days my sewing does not stand up to  close scrutiny...I find it hard to walk a straight line let alone sew a straight line. But here are the photos at last with thanks to Dianne for her help in getting this project accomplished.

Dianne gave me this gorgeous button brooch which she made from one of her fabrics to attach to the bag it is just the right colours.

Elephant

This is a stuffed elephant I did. Someone gave me the pattern for a plain elephant, but being in my addicted CP phase just had to do something different. It is a few years since I made this. Happened at the time to have some heavy black satin, and some gold and gold embossed fabirics.

I had these to plastic pieces that looked the right shape so covered them in some bright pink metallic thread. My elephant sits in a box waiting for someone in the family to decide they cannot live without him.

More crazy patchwork

Once I knew about crazy patchwork, I soon became quite addicted to it, and embroidery in general which will become obvious. These are pieces I made to fit into the lids of small jewellery boxes my husband made for me.




I like the jewel colours, but decided to try the black and cream and was really pleased with the way it turned out.

Between us we have made many of these little jewellery boxes. Firstly I recessed the embroidery on the top of the lids, but then felt they would be better if the recesses were under the lids. That way it would prevent the problem of dust.

Each of our daughters and grandaughters has received one of these boxes, all with a different design of embroidery. I found that the silk ribbon embroidery looked the nicest. Have only one box left for the last grandaughter.

Cushions

In 1994 I was in Gympie and happened to look in the window of the local craft shop where I spied the most beautiful crazy patchwork bear. On investigating I discovered that I could get lessons in Crazy Patchwork. So this is my first effort. I had no idea at all of what fabrics to take, and just sorted a few left overs from dresses I had made for grandchildren. It was a mix of fabrics and I think only one was cotton.

I was very fortunate that the teacher was such a kind person, and did not believe in being critical of anyones work, but instead made helpful suggestions.



After the first lesson I went home to make the base and forgot how to do it so sat on the floor with a lot of other fabrics, taffetas etc, and painstakingly cut each piece out to fit....please dont laugh anyone. This is what came out. Fortunately one of my daughters loved it and still has it on display in her home.

Cushion and Bear

Hi people, I have taken the plunge..what a groovy granny I am!

Hopefully through sharing photos of my work I will meet ladies with the same interest in embroidery and art.

I became interested in crazy patchwork in 1994, when i did a course, and went from there. These are pictures of my favourite cushion and bear.

The pattern for this Bear came from the Inspirations magazine. It is a very easy pattern to put together. I have worked the embroidery in Brazilian threads.
