How many cushions can one person make....but what do you do with prolific pieces of embroidery......turn them into cushions.

Needleturned Applique

These are three cushions I discovered at my daughters. They are worked in needleturned applique. I originally had ideas of making a quilt, but after doing these practise squares, decided the queen size quilt was far too daunting for me.

However, I did attempt one quilt for my grandaughter which is below.

Cushions

In 1994 I was in Gympie and happened to look in the window of the local craft shop where I spied the most beautiful crazy patchwork bear. On investigating I discovered that I could get lessons in Crazy Patchwork. So this is my first effort. I had no idea at all of what fabrics to take, and just sorted a few left overs from dresses I had made for grandchildren. It was a mix of fabrics and I think only one was cotton.

I was very fortunate that the teacher was such a kind person, and did not believe in being critical of anyones work, but instead made helpful suggestions.



After the first lesson I went home to make the base and forgot how to do it so sat on the floor with a lot of other fabrics, taffetas etc, and painstakingly cut each piece out to fit....please dont laugh anyone. This is what came out. Fortunately one of my daughters loved it and still has it on display in her home.

Circle of Flowers

The Brazilian style of embroidery is one of my favourites. The threads are beautiful to work with, and the lovely sheen of the finished work makes it really stand out.Once you have mastered the stitches this technique can be used in so many other ways.

I use these threads a lot in my underwater embroideries because of the sheen which give a real "wet look" to the stitch.

These are Maria Freitas cast on stitch flower. Her bullion rose designs are a wonderful addition to any piece of work.

I completed this cushion during a workshop with Debbie Mercer when she had her shop in Gympie. The design on the cushion is hers. She is a brilliant teacher. Deb now lives in Brisbane and has a website where she does online classes. Her work has to be seen to be believed. Check out Debs work . Cushion and Bear

Hi people, I have taken the plunge..what a groovy granny I am!

Hopefully through sharing photos of my work I will meet ladies with the same interest in embroidery and art.

I became interested in crazy patchwork in 1994, when i did a course, and went from there. These are pictures of my favourite cushion and bear.

The pattern for this Bear came from the Inspirations magazine. It is a very easy pattern to put together. I have worked the embroidery in Brazilian threads.
