Tast week 14 Buttonhole Herringbone

NOTE: For some reason my blog keeps opening at this older post. I have posted since this one ...can anyone offer any advice on what may have happened.

Meanwhile click "Home" to get my latest posts

This is my Tast week 14 stitch...I enjoyed doing this, but can see quite a few mistakes...

I have found this week I cant sit for long at my table without my leg aching, so have had to make do with just this one sample for now. I would like to use this stitch for a frilly crinoline skirt...or fish scales...oops..couldn't help myself had to revert to the sea theme in my mind.

I have added this to the end of a piece of antique lace I used previously. If the stitch were reversed on the top two rows it would make a lovely border for the lace.

This stitch could also be used in a number of other ways, petals for flowers, CQ seam embellishments, and even icing decoration on an embroidered cake.. I guess one is only limited by ones imagination.

I am trying to conquer long and short stitch as well this week so that has taken up some of my time....oh and the dust on the windows....it is on the inside so figure if I do one window a day I might get through them without much effort and still have time left for embroidery.

This is the pink sampler as it is to date...I don't have all the stitches on it because I have put the stitches with different coloured threads onto separate samplers. I know now that had I known i would have been far better working each stitch onto smaller "pages' so I could convert them into their own book.

  1. Hi. My name is Dorothy and I have just discovered your Blog. I was looking at some quilts by Dianne Firth, which led me to another site, which led me to yours. Round and round I go on the internet. I love patchwork, quilting, needle turn applique and doing stitcheries. Have you taught yourself to embroider or did you have lessons. I have some arthritis in my fingers (born 1933 - you're only a baby!) - now but am still able to stitch. I just have to pace myself, which I find difficult when I get in a groove and forget to stop. I live in Canberra, and of course am now retired from work. I am enjoying looking at your embroidery. Nice to meet you! Dorothy.

  2. Hi Shirley, your stitches are beautiful. I have not been taking time to do much handwork. My baby is home and I am spending as much time with her as possible. I got my book on blackwork and look forward to working on it soon.

  3. Your buttonholed herringbone is lovely! It's such a great stitch. I tried some long and short stitch last year. Mary Corbet made a great class for it with video! I'm halfway lesson 5, but still want to finish all lessons. You can find them here:

  4. Love the close up of your latest stitching task, Shirley and then also clicked to view the whole sampler - which is wonderful. Lesley

  5. This looks so nice, with the beautiful thread and the beads.
By the way, my windows are dirty, too. But at the moment I have no plan to clean them. They can wait. After a very long cold and rainy time we have sunshine now and I am going to enjay it.

  10. Super sample. I love the way you built it up into a "band" design. Shirley, thank you for leaving me the kind comment of support on my blog.
